Sacred Heart Cross Country is having an incredible season! We are seeing some amazing accomplishments on the course! Abigail Beall recently broke a 4th-grade school record that has stood for NINE YEARS by nearly a minute! Our 3rd-grade girls are making history, too. Elizabeth Hebron broke the 3rd-grade record earlier this season, only to have Emma Claire Foster break it again last week! This year, we have introduced Elite Runner Clubs, recognizing athletes who reach impressive time goals. Congratulations to John Michael Church, our very FIRST member of the Sacred Heart 13-Minute Club for completing two miles in under 14 minutes! Our runners have also challenged Sacred Heart faculty and staff to a friendly mileage competition, and together they’ve logged nearly 3,000 MILES since September! That’s roughly the distance from Los Angeles to New York City! We are so proud of all our runners for their hard work, determination, and commitment to getting better every day! A huge thank you to Head Coach Justin Stoeckle and Assistant Coach Shane Robinson, for leading and encouraging our runners every step of the way! #sacredheartproud

Students in Mrs. Robinson’s 4th and 5th grade reading classes presented their summer reading book projects to classmates. As part of the project, students wrote a two-paragraph summary demonstrating their understanding of the story, characters, setting, conflict, theme, message, and important events. They then selected a creative project to showcase their learning, including becoming a character, creating a diorama, bringing three meaningful items, redesigning the book cover, and more. Mrs. Robinson’s assignment helped students combine reading comprehension with creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression. Their unique projects showed just how much learning can come to life through a great book! #sacredheartproud

On the first days of school, Mrs. Aydell read “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn to her kindergarten students. After that, they went on a campus wide scavenger hunt to find Chester the raccoon. They followed clues which sent them to the gym, library, nurse, cafeteria, office, bathrooms, etc. Guess where they finally found him...back in the kindergarten classroom! What a sneaky little raccoon. I think Chester just wanted them to learn their way around campus, what a fun way to do that. #sacredheartproud

What’s so special about Catholic school? Jesus! That’s it. That’s the post. Seriously though, at Sacred Heart, our kids are surrounded by opportunities to encounter Jesus Christ. They read the Bible. They pray the Rosary. They go to Adoration. They celebrate Holy Mass. They learn that Jesus isn’t just part of religion class. He wants to be at the center of their entire lives. And we’ve got everybody helping them get there! Priests…. Deacons…. … Religious sisters…. Seminarians….. Teachers…. Staff…. and even have therapy dogs making sure these kids are praying! That’s the gift of Catholic education. When you send your child to a Catholic school, you’re giving them the opportunity to encounter Jesus again and again and again. At Sacred Heart of Jesus School, we want to form saints, scholars, and servant leaders who know Jesus, love Jesus, and learn how to follow Him. Come and see what makes Sacred Heart special. #catholic #school #prayer #jesus #batonrouge sacredheartproud

This week, students attended an art camp led by SHS parent Bailey Simon-Sherman. Students explored how artists throughout history have created beautiful works using the natural world. They transformed soil, plants, vegetables, herbs, and even sunlight into works of art while learning the science and history behind natural pigments and printmaking. During the week, students: - Created watercolor paints from locally sourced soils, beets, turmeric, and other natural materials. - Harnessed the power of the sun to make botanical prints using leaves, flowers, and plant-based pigments. - Experimented with herbal teas as watercolor paints and explored the beautiful colors found in nature. - Painted and printed with their handmade paints and natural tools. -Carved stamps into beets and turmeric and used them to create unique pieces of art. - Learned how ancient cultures and Indigenous peoples used the resources around them to create art that has stood the test of time. It was an incredible week filled with curiosity, creativity, and a little bit of dirt! Special thanks to Bailey for bringing her knowledge and creativity to our students. #sacredheartproud

Our team had an amazing opportunity to attend the ISTE+ASCD Conference in Orlando! They joined thousands of educators and school leaders from around the world to learn about new ideas, innovative technology, and creative ways to support student learning. They attended several sessions, picking up practical strategies, and exploring fresh ideas to make learning even more engaging, inclusive, and meaningful for our students and came home with plenty of new tools and inspiration that they are excited to bring back to our classrooms. And it wasn't all work! After busy days of learning and networking, they enjoyed spending time together in the evenings, making memories and strengthening the team along the way. How can you go to Orlando and not visit Disneyworld!! We are grateful for the dedication of our team to learn, grow, and bring back new ideas that will help us continue supporting student success! #sacredheartproud #ISTEASCD @frjoshjohnson
